CharTr - A lightweight mind-mapping tool

CharTr is a lightweight mind-mapping tool. It is based on Labyrinth 0.3 and inspired by VYM and VIM.

Currently, CharTr has the following features (from website):

  • basic mind map with curved links.
  • folding of links.
  • colors.
  • outline box of several selected nodes.
  • audio/text/images embedded as notes.
  • automatic saving.
  • svg,png,pdf,ps export.
  • numerous keyboard shortcuts (with an eased keyboard navigation, vim like).
  • bookmarking of ideas
  • search for a text in nodes
  • math equations.

Installation

To install CharTr on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron), you can execute the following steps:

  1. Installing python-plastex and numpy:
    sudo apt-get install python-plastex python-numpy
  2. Download the latest version of CharTr. Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop.
  3. Running CharTr:
    cd ~/Desktop
    tar zxvf CharTr_016_20080723.tar.gz
    cd CharTr_016
    python chartr.py

    CharTr is an artistic piece of software made for fun to give mind mappers good usability. For those unfamiliar with mind mapping, Wikipedia says the following:

    I got stuck on the depackaging. I used g-debi and downlowned the deb filr. Exactly, I clicked on the deb file, and chose open with gdebi.I had to browse to it in usr/bin/gdebi-gtk

    I too downloaded the deb file. Had it unpacked and now have it saved here

    /tmp/chartr_0.24_i386.deb

    Do I have to change folders and where to move it?
